DIY Cat Furniture

Does your kitty have some furniture of her own? If not, you may want to rectify this. Cats really benefit from having things that were made specifically for them. However, you don’t have to break the bank buying cat furniture. You can actually make some great pieces yourself! A Lafayette, LA vet lists some DIY cat furniture ideas below.

Fluffy certainly does love her beauty rest! You can turn a hard-case suitcase or hatbox into a cute kitty bed by adding soft blankets or pillows. If you want something a bit more elaborate, upcycle an end table with doors. Just take the doors off and put the bedding inside. Use varnish or paint to make it look nice.

For this one, you need a table with four legs and a sturdy piece of material. Cut the fabric so that it’s just a bit smaller than the table top, then tie the corners to the legs with Velcro or twine. Voila!

Cat Tower

Cat towers are actually quite beneficial for Fluffy. They offer her vertical space, which allows her to get a better view of her kingdom. Plus, they give your kitty a napping spot, jungle gym, and manicure station. Get an old stepladder, and add planks to the steps to widen them out. Then, wrap the whole thing in sisal rope or carpet. This also works with metal storage racks. Of course, if you are up for a bigger challenge, you can make your furball’s cat tower from scratch, using lumber or PVC pipe.

Kitty Tent

This is a great one for timid cats! Our feline pals feel safe in small spaces. Make Fluffy a tent out of an old tee shirt and a wire hangar. Or, go all out, and build her a little kitty teepee. Look online for step-by-step instructions.

Window Seat

Birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite ways to pass the time. Use a smooth plank to widen out the windowsill. Then, use Velcro to attach a pillow or kitty bed. Put a bird feeder up in your cat’s line of sight to make this even more fun for her.

Box Castle

Why not make your feline overlord a box castle? This can be as simple or complex as you like. This is a great rainy-day project for kids!
